Does CBD Oil Make You High

If you are wondering if will CBD get you high, the answer is no, and yes. If using THC Free hemp derived CBD products, they will not make you feel high or cause any psychoactive effects. However, if using a cannabis derived product that contains THC CBD, they may very well get you high. The reasons being, is CBD is non psychoactive, however THC is. THC and CBD are very different, let's explore how they are different.

CBD and THC 1

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol CBD is a cannabinoid, a type of natural chemical compound found in cannabis sativa plant as well as the marijuana hemp plant. It’s one of over a hundred compounds in the cannabis plants, however CBD has received more attention lately as changes to state and federal laws have led to a rise in the production of CBD infused products.

What is THC?

Another infamous cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This chemical compound is known for its psychoactive effects when taken via marijuana. THC produces what many consider a “high,” or an altered state characterized by euphoria and heightened sensory perception. CBD does NOT cause a high like THC.

CBD Hemp Extract Processing

When hemp plants are processed, the hemp extract will contain cannabidiol (CBD), other cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and THC. In order for CBD to be legal the extract must contain less than 0.3 THC content.  Cannabis products that have a higher content must be purchased through a licensed medical marijuana facility, usually with a prescription medical card.

How do Cannabinoids work?

All people have an endocannabinoid system, and it is the CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors with in this system that directly interact with cannabinoids. Your endocannabinoid system helps to regulate many vital areas of bodily function and works directly with the Central Nervous System. The main function of the endocannabinoid system is to keep the body in homeostasis or a balanced state. When CBD binds to the receptors there is no euphoric feeling, however the effects of THC when binding to the receptors will produce a high.

Types of CBD

Full vs broad spectrum CBD. Both full and broad-spectrum CBD products have a multitude of potential benefits, broad spectrum and full spectrum CBD have slight differences in composition. As a result, you may have effects with one product that you might not necessarily get with a different CBD product.

Think full and broad-spectrum CBD products are confusing enough? Throw products such as CBD isolate into the batter and it’ll be enough to make your head spin! A CBD isolate is generally just one of the 100 plus cannabinoids singled out, basically CBD alone.  Well, adjust your head back to this blog because we are going to simplify the complicated world of CBD spectrums. Let’s explain the differences of full spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD.

Is CBD Oil psychoactive

Full Spectrum CBD

Full spectrum CBD has had no cannabinoids extracted or removed, including the psychoactive chemical compound THC which must be less than 0.3 THC to be Federally Legal per the 2018 Farm Bill Act. The logic for this circles back to something called the entourage effect which believes all of the cannabinoids work in unison for the betterment of the whole, THC included.

If you see full spectrum on the label of a CBD product, make sure to check out the company’s lab reports. Although the industry has not regulated the terms of the word, a full spectrum product will most likely have THC in the item so it is important to check the lab reports to make sure the CBD product does not contain more than 0.3% THC

Broad Spectrum CBD

The refining process is the critical method for crafting broad spectrum oil. During this point of the process, you can remove unwanted cannabinoids from the mix.

Some premium CBD companies decide to intentionally remove THC from their products, like the Palm Organix CBD brand. However, they will keep all the other cannabinoids in the formula. Manufacturers that remove THC from the final item tend to market their products as a broad-spectrum CBD.

With broad spectrum CBD hemp oil, you positively are still getting the synergy of the other cannabinoids known as the entourage effect. The only one missing from the CBD party is THC.  Said another way, you get all the beneficial cannabinoids of the cannabis plant without any of the unwanted negative psychoactive side effects. thc vs cbd

Why You Should Choose Broad over Full Spectrum

At the end of the day, both types of CBD may have benefits. While THC may help boost the overall formula, removing it from the formula certainly does not hurt the CBD product’s effectiveness. A broad-spectrum CBD oil is just as effective at supporting your wellness without having to consume any THC.

If you do decide to go for a full spectrum product, be sure to read the label to find out the plant source. Full spectrum CBD oil can be derived from hemp or cannabis. Under the 2018 Farm Bill, any hemp-based product must have less than 0.3 percent THC.

CBD Lab Testing is important

Drug Tests and CBD

Even though CBD will not get you high, it is important to note that even when using a THC Free product, there are times when a drug test is testing for cannabis or hemp, and not just THC, so there is the potential to have a positive result. It is important to discuss CBD use with your human resource department before using CBD.

Benefits of CBD

Research suggests people use CBD to have improve health and wellness, like promoting a restful night’s sleep, supporting muscle and joint function, and instilling a sense of calmness to name a few. Some people are taking CBD on a daily basis as part of their wellness regime. While not yet FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved to treat, prevent or cure any disease, the effects of cannabidiol have been very positive. The effects of using CBD may help with many areas of daily life.
